After a selection of more than 100 participants, a total of 10 pianists were chosen to travel to Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), with all expenses paid, to compete in the semifinal round. Finally, the three chosen were Elisabeth Pion (Canada), Gabrielle Strata (Italy) and Leo de María (Spain).
The grand final took place with the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra of Rio de Janeiro together with Maestro Roberto Tibiriça in the Santa Cecilia Mirelles Hall.
Leo de María won Second Prize performing Concerto No. 3 by Sergei Prokofiev.
